About GotMyNumber
A free UK phone number checker, built to answer one question honestly: who is this number, and what do we actually know about it?
Why it exists
Most calls from numbers you do not recognise are harmless: a surgery, a delivery driver, a tradesperson ringing back. Some are not. Many of the sites that claim to tell you which is which are covered in adverts, print a crowd score as if it were a verdict, and never say where their facts come from. GotMyNumber is the opposite of that on purpose.
What a lookup tells you
- What kind of number it is, and for a landline, where the code is, from Ofcom’s numbering data.
- Which phone company Ofcom gave the number’s range to, and when. Numbers can move network, so this is where it started, not necessarily where it is now.
- What other people reported, counted by person rather than by button press, each report shown as one person’s unchecked account.
- Whether a business has proved it holds the line. Only a business that has proved it is shown by name.
What it will never do
It will never name a private person against a phone number, and no payment unlocks one. It will not give a number a safety rating, because a report is an allegation and a number with no reports has usually just never been reported.
