The basics
How does GotMyNumber work?+
Paste any UK number and we tell you three things: whether it belongs to a verified UK business on the Towpath identity network, what other people have reported about it, and how to reclaim your own number if it’s yours. Looking up a number is free and needs no login.
Is the lookup really free?+
Yes. Searching a number and seeing community reports costs nothing and never will. You only pay if you choose a verified caller badge or bulk business verification.
Is my search private?+
We don’t require an account, and a lookup isn’t tied to you. We’re UK based and follow UK GDPR. We don’t sell your data.
Verified businesses
What does verified mean?+
A business can register its lines with the Towpath network and complete verification. Once verified, its number shows as the business by name, so a real call reads as trusted rather than unknown.
Why is a name sometimes hidden?+
If a number is registered to a business that has not finished verification, we say it’s registered but we don’t show the name yet. That stops anyone registering as a bank or a government body and borrowing trust they haven’t earned. An unverified badge means not proven, never bad.
Does no report mean a number is safe?+
No. We only ever show positive signals. A number with no reports is shown as exactly that. Absence of a report is a good sign, not proof a number is safe.
Reporting a number
How do I report a scam number?+
Open Report, enter the number, pick the type of call, and add any detail. Your report is added to the community record and helps warn other people.
What happens after I report?+
The report is added to that number's community record. When several people report the same number, it shows more prominently on the number page.
Can someone report a number falsely?+
We watch for patterns of abuse. Reports are user-submitted and may not be verified, which is why we show them as community signals rather than fact.
Your own number
Can I claim my own number?+
Yes. If a number is yours, you can claim it and manage how it appears. This connects to your Towpath card so your number stays yours across the estate.
How do I reclaim my number from callers?+
Pair with UniversalContacts to hold one contact card that stays current, and use ClaimYourData to see who holds your number on file and ask them to remove it under UK GDPR.
Privacy and data
How is my data protected?+
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, are UK based, and follow UK GDPR. GotMyNumber is part of Central Contacts Ltd, registered in England and Wales.
Can I have my data removed?+
Yes. You can ask us to remove data we hold, and ClaimYourData helps you exercise the same right against other companies that hold your number.
