Who uses 0330 numbers?
Ofcom brought in UK-wide 03 numbers so an organisation can have one national number without callers paying extra to reach it. Any business, charity or public body can take an 033 number, so a 0330 number tells you the caller wanted a national number, and nothing about who they are or where they sit.
That is why the same 0330 prefix turns up on calls from a real customer service line, a sales team working through a list, and a caller you would rather not hear from. Caller ID can also be faked, so the number on your screen may not be the one that rang. How caller ID spoofing works.
Is an 0330 call a scam?
Not in itself. An 0330 number proves nothing either way, so judge the call by what the caller asks for. If it said it was your bank, hang up and dial 159 for most UK banks. If it was a scam, report it to Report Fraud, or to Police Scotland on 101, and text the number to 7726 so your mobile provider can look at it.
