An 0333 number is a UK-wide number with no place attached. It is part of the 033 range, which Ofcom opens to any organisation. 0333 is not an area code: an 0333 number can be answered anywhere in the UK.

Who uses 0333 numbers?
Ofcom brought in UK-wide 03 numbers so an organisation can have one national number without callers paying extra to reach it. Any business, charity or public body can take an 033 number, so a 0333 number tells you the caller wanted a national number, and nothing about who they are or where they sit.
That is why the same 0333 prefix turns up on calls from a real customer service line, a sales team working through a list, and a caller you would rather not hear from. Caller ID can also be faked, so the number on your screen may not be the one that rang. How caller ID spoofing works.
Getting repeat calls from different 0333 numbers?
Blocking one number often doesn’t help when the next call comes from another 0333 number. What works better depends on the call:
- Sales calls: register with the Telephone Preference Service. It is free, and after 28 days organisations may not make unsolicited live sales calls to your number.
- Marketing calls to a TPS number: report them to the ICO. The ICO’s guidance says a marketing caller must let its number, or another contact number, be shown to you.
- Silent calls: report them to Ofcom online or on 0300 123 3333.
- Scams: report to Report Fraud, or Police Scotland on 101, and text the number to 7726.

Is an 0333 number a scam?
Not in itself. Organisations use 0333 numbers for customer service and sales lines, and anyone else can get one too, so the prefix proves nothing. Why do I keep getting calls from 0333 numbers?
